SEGUIN- McMurry women's basketball gets a huge conference win on the road against TLU by a score of 73-53.
McMurry improved to 13-3 overall & 6-1 in conference play, while TLU fell to 14-3 overall & 8-1 in conference play.
The War Hawks opened the game with tough defense and some big baskets early on. They were able to settle in and take a 5 point lead at the end of the first quarter, proving to be huge as they looked to build their lead in the second quarter.
In the second quarter, McMurry was able to stretch their lead some more to take a 13 point lead into the locker room at the half. In a conference game between 2 teams near the top of the standings, the War Hawks knew how important it was to build a lead at the half and try to take control of the game while making the Bulldogs play from behind.
TLU was able to dip into that McMurry lead a little bit in the third quarter, as they outscored the War Hawks by 5 to but the lead to 8 going into the 4th quarter. With it being a single digit contest, it was still anyone's game heading into the final quarter of play.
McMurry was able to put the finishing touches on the game with a really strong 4th quarter where they flexed their defense while they outscored TLU 20-8 to close the game.
McMurry was led by Helana Chadwick with 23 points, followed by Emily Holland with 18 points, while TLU was led by Angelina Sotelo with 19 points.
The War Hawks are back in action tomorrow against Southwestern at 4:00PM in Georgetown.
