McMurry University made its final appearance in the American Southwest Conference Baseball Championship May 2-4 in Marshall.

Coach Josh Lee's team, the tourney's fifth seed, lost the first game 6-2 Thursday, May 2 to fourth-seed Concordia Texas. Thirty minutes later, the War Hawks started the elimination round and beat third-seed Mary Hardin-Baylor 7-4.

On Saturday, May 4, the War Hawks saw their season end in a 6-3 loss to regular-season champion and tourney host East Texas Baptist.

Against Concordia, McMurry scored one run in the second inning and another in the ninth. Junior infielder Nolan Scherencel (Arlington, Texas) homered in the second. In the ninth, junior outfielder Koy Carpenter (La Vernia, Texas) grounded out to second base for a RBI, junior outfielder Xavier Escobar (Buda, Texas) advanced to second, sophomore infielder Jeremiah Enriquez (Galveston, Texas) went to third and junior infielder Josh Mueller (Stamford, Texas) scored. The War Hawks loaded the bases twice in the ninth. McMurry had nine hits with contributions from junior infielder Ty Nelson (Scottsdale, Arizona), sophomore infielder Riley Hood (Abilene, Texas) (3), sophomore catcher Michael Smosna (Lubbock, Texas), Scherencel, junior outfielder Casey Turner (Kingwood, Texas), Mueller and Enriquez.

Freshman righty Ethan Wendel (Louise, Texas), who threw seven innings while striking out three batters, was given the loss.

Against Mary Hardin-Baylor, McMurry scored once in the first, three times in the fourth, once in the sixth and twice in the eighth. Smosna singled to center field in the first for a RBI and got to second base, Nelson moved to third on the throw and went home. In the fourth, senior infielder Dylan Abbott (San Angelo, Texas) singled for a bunt and advanced to second on an error by the third baseman for a RBI, Enriquez went to third and Scherencel scored. Mueller then grounded out to the shortstop for a RBI, Abbott moved to third and Enriquez crossed home plate. Still in the fourth, Escobar grounded out to the shortstop for a RBI, scoring Abbott. In the sixth, Abbott singled to left field for a RBI and Scherencel went home. In the eighth, Mueller doubled up the middle for a RBI and Abbott went home. Carpenter then got thrown out in an exchange from left field to the second baseman, but it resulted in a RBI because Mueller scored. McMurry finished with 12 hits with contributions from Carpenter (2), Smosna (2), Scherencel (2), Enriquez, Abbott (4) and Mueller.

Sophomore righty Hunter Poe (Midland, Texas) threw five innings while striking out two to raise his record to 4-2. Junior righty Bryson Morrill (Trophy Club, Texas) got the save by throwing four innings and striking out one.

Against East Texas Baptist, McMurry scored one run in the fourth and two in the sixth. Escobar walked in the fourth for a RBI, Mueller advanced to second, Abbott went to third and Scherencel scored. In the sixth, Nelson homered and that sent Carpenter across home plate as well. McMurry got 11 hits with contributions from Carpenter (2), Nelson, Hood (3), Scherencel (2), Enriquez (2) and Escobar.
