McMurry University baseball lost 20-8 Tuesday, April 9 to Trinity University in San Antonio.

Coach Josh Lee's team scored three times in the second inning, twice in the third and three times in the seventh. Junior infielder Josh Dyer (Albany, Texas) homered in the second. Junior outfielder Koy Carpenter (La Vernia, Texas) then walked for a RBI, junior outfielder Xavier Escobar (Buda, Texas) advanced to second, junior infielder Blake Beach (Atascocita, Texas) went to third and junior infielder Josh Mueller (Stamford, Texas) scored. Also in the second, Carpenter moved to second base, Escobar advanced to third and Beach went home on a balk. In the third, Dyer homered for a 2 RBI, scoring sophomore catcher Michael Smosna (Lubbock, Texas). In the seventh, Mueller doubled down the right field line for a RBI and junior infielder Nolan Scherencel (Arlington, Texas) crossed home plate. Junior outfielder Carson Jones (San Antonio, Texas) then singled to the shortstop and got to second on a throwing error by the shortstop. The error resulted in a RBI for Jones because Mueller scored. Also in the seventh, junior infielder Ty Nelson (Scottsdale, Arizona) reached on a fielder's choice for a RBI and Jones went home. McMurry got 10 hits with contributions from Carpenter, Nelson, Smosna, Dyer (2), Scherencel, Mueller (2), Beach and Jones. Mueller and Jones each stole a base.

Sophomore lefty G'anni Cade (Dallas, Texas) was given the loss.

McMurry, 15-15 overall, returns to American Southwest Conference action this weekend at LeTourneau University in Longview with games at 7 p.m. Friday and 1 and 4 p.m. Saturday.
