McMurry University softball swept a weekend series with University of the Ozarks in Clarksville, Ark., winning 3-0, 10-2 and 4-0.

This was the second American Southwest Conference series in which McMurry won all three contests, and it also posted its sixth and seventh shutouts of the season.

In the first game Friday, March 22, coach David McNally's team scored one run in the fourth inning and two in the seventh. Sophomore shortstop Morgan Faubion (Crosby, Texas) reached on a fielder's choice for a RBI in the fourth and senior left fielder Angelica Abila (Lubbock, Texas) scored. In the seventh, Abila singled for a 2 RBI that allowed senior designated player Kate Casey (Thorndale, Texas) to advance to third base and sophomore first baseman Trista Brown (Crosby, Texas) and freshman first baseman/designated player Reaghan Staehely (Mission, Texas) to both cross home plate. McMurry collected four hits with contributions from Abila (2), Brown and Casey. Faubion stole a base.
Fifth-year senior Jenna Lewis (Hearne, Texas) went the distance in throwing seven innings while striking out nine batters to raise her record to 6-1.

In Friday's second game, McMurry scored once in the first inning, five times in the fifth, twice in the sixth and twice in the seventh. Sophomore third baseman Miranda Soileau (Houston, Texas) grounded out to the third baseman for a sacrifice bunt and RBI in the first, freshman pinch runner Lillian Contreras (Corpus Christi, Texas) advanced to third and Abila scored. In the fifth, Faubion doubled to right field for a RBI, junior second baseman Jade Dickens (Friendswood, Texas) went to third and Abila crossed home plate. Junior right fielder Aliyah Tanguma (Kyle, Texas) then singled through the right side for a 2 RBI, scoring Faubion and Dickens. Also in the fifth, freshman designated player Sophia Fuller (Eagle River, Alaska) doubled to left center for a 2 RBI, sending Brown and junior center fielder Mercedes Camacho (El Paso, Texas) home. In the sixth, Faubion reached on a fielder's choice for a RBI, Abila went to third and freshman shortstop Samantha Gonzales (Hamlin, Texas) scored. Soileau then grounded out to center for a sacrifice bunt and RBI, Faubion advanced to second and Abila crossed home plate. In the seventh, Fuller went to third on a wild pitch and Brown scored on a wild pitch. Abila then flied out to right field for a sacrifice RBI, Gonzales advanced to third and Fuller went home. McMurry got nine hits with contributions from Abila (2), Dickens (2), Faubion, Tanguma, Brown, Fuller and Casey. Abila, Contreras, Fuller and Gonzales each stole a base.

In the game Saturday, March 23, McMurry scored one run in the fourth inning and three in the seventh. Tanguma doubled to left center in the fourth for a RBI and Camacho scored. In the seventh, freshman third baseman Elaina Herrera (Belton, Texas) singled to right field for a RBI, Fuller advanced to third and Staehely crossed home plate. Sophomore pinch hitter Mikaila Wagner (San Angelo, Texas) then doubled to center field for a 2 RBI, scoring both Herrera and Fuller. McMurry had nine hits with contributions from Abila, Faubion (2), Herrera, Camacho, Wagner, and Tanguma (3). Faubion stole a base.

Lewis went the distance in throwing seven innings and striking out six batters in raising her record to 7-1.

McMurry, 15-4 overall and 7-2 in conference, hosts East Texas Baptist University after Easter at Edwards Field with games at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. April 2 and noon April 3.
