McMurry University baseball lost 13-6 Tuesday, Feb. 27 in Irving to University of Dallas.
Coach Josh Lee's team scored twice in the third inning, three times in the fourth and once in the ninth. With the opponent up 3-0, sophomore infielder Riley Hood (Abilene, Texas) got things going in the third when he grounded out to second base for an RBI, allowing junior outfielder Carson Jones (San Antonio, Texas) to go to third and sophomore outfielder Tatum Black (Friendswood, Texas) to score. Junior infielder Nolan Scherencel (Arlington, Texas) then singled to center field for an RBI that sent Jones across home plate. Down 3-2 in the fourth, McMurry added three more runs. Junior infielder Josh Mueller (La Vernia, Texas) homered to left field for a 2 RBI which sent sophomore infielder Jeremiah Enriquez (Galveston, Texas) home. Hood then singled to left field for an RBI that enabled Jones to go to third and Black to score. McMurry's last score was in the ninth when junior infielder Reid Brock (Anchorage, Alaska) flied out to center field for a sacrifice RBI that enabled Jones to go home.
The visitors collected six hits with contributions from Black, Jones, Hood, Scherencel, freshman designated hitter Jaxon Rhea (Llano, Texas) and Mueller.
McMurry, 4-6, plays University of Texas-Dallas this weekend at Walt Driggers Field with games at 7 p.m. Friday, and 1 and 4 p.m. Saturday.
