Box Score McMurry University's Lady War Hawks lost 81-74 to Hardin-Simmons University Saturday, Feb. 10 at HSU.
Junior guard/forward Emily Holland (Mansfield, Texas) led the way with 25 points, followed by sophomore guard Helana Chadwick (La Vernia, Texas) and sophomore guard Kylie Flippin (Wichita Falls, Texas), each with 13, and junior post Ashton Garner (Odessa, Texas) with 11.
Coach Drew Long's team lost the first quarter 18-14 but won the second 17-11. The opponent also took the third quarter 28-18, but McMurry got the fourth 25-24.
McMurry was ahead at halftime 31-29 and kept the lead for almost four minutes of the third quarter. The lead changed hands four times and the score was tied five times.
The Lady War Hawks made five three-pointers. Holland had three, and Garner and Flippin added one apiece. At the free-throw line, Garner and Holland were both 4 of 5, Chadwick was 3 of 4, Flippin was 2 of 2 and sophomore forward/center Aryana Cleveland (San Antonio, Texas) was 2 of 3. McMurry blocked seven shots and junior post Katie Hale (Decatur, Texas) was responsible for four of them. Junior wing Jay Hollie (Fort Worth, Texas), Cleveland and Garner had one each. In addition, Holland tried to block two shots while senior guard/forward Taya Bridges (Mesquite, Texas) and Flippin attempted to block one apiece.
Holland had a double double as she finished with 10 rebounds, four on offense and six on defense. Cleveland had eight rebounds, four each on offense and defense. The visitors stole the ball six times with Holland having four thefts and Chadwick getting two.
McMurry, 15-8 overall and 9-5 in the American Southwest Conference, plays at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton.
