BROWNWOOD – McMurry scored 103 points but lost an offensive battle at Howard Payne 115-103.
 
Matt Pena led the War Hawks with 28 points and Keno Thompson added 20. Jalen Cherry scored 18 points and TJ Hilliard added 17. Kole Verdadaro scored 12.
 
The War Hawks trailed 66-45 at the half but posted 58 points in the second half on 52 percent shooting.
 
Thompson had four assists and three steals with Hilliard dishing four assists to go with two steals. Cherry led with seven rebounds.
 
The War Hawks travel to Longview for their next three games, beginning at 5 p.m. on Friday against Concordia-Chicago.
