ABILENE – McMurry dropped its non-conference battle with Howard Payne in five sets on Tuesday night, 17-25, 25-20, 21-25, 25-13, 15-10
McMurry won the first set 25-17, taking command with a 10-4 run to build a 13-7 lead. The War Hawks led by as many as eight on three occasions, including the final margin. McMurry had a .400 attack percentage in the opening set.
After falling in the second set, the War Hawks trailed 19-18 in the third set but scored the next six points, including a kill by
Jacee Dinkins and four consecutive points off of blocks.
Kendra Humphries and
Rylie Patterson were in on two of the blocks each. Humphries later ended the set with a kill.
Dinkins led the War Hawks with 10 kills and
Addyson Tiffin added nine with a .258 attack percentage.
Carli Colbert had 21 assists and
Ashlyn Quillan added 19.
Defensively, Patterson was in on three blocks and
Hannah Page led with 21 digs. Colbert added 17 digs, followed by Dinkins with 11 and
Isabela Dorsey and
Jennika Willis with 10 each.
The War Hawks return to the conference schedule this weekend, hosting Colorado College and St. Thomas on Saturday and Sunday in a pair of 1 p.m. starts.
