McMurry Blanks Centenary, 3-0

SHREVEPORT – McMurry scored three goals in the first 12 minutes and left Louisiana with a 3-0 win over Centenary on Sunday.

The victory gave the War Hawks a road sweep and vaulted McMurry into second place in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.

"It's tough to go on the road and get two victories but the girls found a way to do it," said McMurry head coach Charles Nobles. "We scored different types of goals all weekend and didn't allow many shots, which is a good weekend overall."

Emily Holland got her eighth and ninth goals of the season and Cate Tempelmeyer added her second.

Holland scored off a feed from Haylie Blakley just 2:28 into the game and got the brace less than four minutes later for the 2-0 lead. Jaelynn Portillo had the first of her two assists on the second goal.

Tempelmeyer scored in the 12 minute.

McMurry out-shot their hosts 19-3 and put eight shots on goal. Emily Holland had six shots with three being on-target. Templemeyer, Portillo, Haylie Andrle, Kaylee Worth and Madison Black also had shots on goal.

Nana Torres and Avery Anders shared the shutout with Torres getting two saves.

The War Hawks return to action on Friday, hosting the University of Dallas at 7:30 p.m.
