NON-CONFERENCE THRILLER SPOTLIGHTS HOME OPENER

ABILENE, TEXAS – A back and forth match-up between a pair of former American Southwest Conference foes kicked off McMurry University's home schedule Friday, Sept. 15.

The War Hawks and transitioning NCAA Division II foe Sul Ross State University kept a strong crowd of 200 fans on the edge of their seats inside Kimbrell Arena. The visiting Lobos held off their hosts 25-23 in set one and 26-24 in set three, while the Maroon and White rolled in the second and fourth sets by identical 25-13 counts. Head coach Cammie Petree's squad led 3-2 and was tied 6-6 and 10-10 in the decider before SRSU scored five of the final six points for a 15-11 decision.

Junior outside hitter Jacee Dinkins' sizzling season kept on going. The Azle, Texas, native terrorized the opposing defense to the tune of 18 kills and just one error on 42 attempts for a .405 attack percentage, highlighting her fifth double-figure kills total of the season and a personal single-match career best mark.

Other impressive numbers for the home team included a combined 38 assists put up by freshman setter Allison Montoya (Fort Worth, Texas) and junior Ashlyn Quillan (Van Alstyne, Texas); junior defensive specialist/libero Hannah Page (Lubbock, Texas) served up four aces and tallied 12 digs; senior defensive specialist/libero Addie Leal (Clute, Texas) wound up with 28 digs; and the team totaled five blocks with one solo coming from senior middle hitter Addyson Tiffin (Bushland, Texas). McMurry resumes a run of three successive home appearances Saturday, Sept. 16, against Howard Payne University in its league opener. First serve is 12 p.m.
