MCMURRY 100 - ALL-CENTURY MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY TEAM RELEASED

As McMurry University continues its centennial celebration and moves toward honoring the All-Century group in October, McMurry University's Office of Athletic Communications will highlight a team within the overall list each week. This continues with men's cross country.

The All-Century Team consists of:

David Chandler '00 – Chandler, an All-Century team member as a scholar-athlete and coach, starred in both roles during his McMurry career. He was a four-time All-American Southwest Conference honoree on the course, including a first-team selection in 2000. He was the league's Runner of the Year twice, in 1998 and 2000.

During his head coaching stint for the Maroon and White, both men's and women's programs enjoyed success. Both teams went to the NCAA Regional meet seven seasons under his direction. The men were the ASC runners-up six times, while the women earned a league title in 2006 and were runners-up on four other occasions.

Michael Dowd '15 – A top 10 finisher at the former Texas Division III Championships and a second-team all-ASC awardee during his running career, Dowd still has plenty of residence on the program's all-time best clockings.

Before current scholar-athlete Gabriel Sanchez's blazing pair of sub-25:40s in 8K action during 2022, Dowd had the program's top time in that distance at 25:42.  His 26:01 and two sub-26:00 marks are still among the school's all-time-best.

Braegen Enright '03 – Enright compiled three all-ASC awards, including two first-team accolades during his War Hawks running days. He also spotlighted the 2002 conference championships, hosted by McMurry, by claiming the individual title.

Enright's lauded collegiate campaign didn't stop there. He placed second at the Texas Division III meet in 2022, and the top 10 at the NCAA Division III South/Southeast Region meet in 2000.

Shawn Hailey '08 – Hailey made his name well known across the league, capturing four second-team all-conference awards under Coach David Chandler's direction.

His 21:14 four-mile effort in Oregon during 2006 still stands as one of the program's best efforts at that distance.

Louis Jones '08 – Joining Hailey to make a formidable crew for Coach Chandler in the early 2000s, Jones was also a four-time second-team all-ASC honoree.

His 26:53 8K at Hendrix College in 2005 remains among the best times in that distance for McMurry.

Bradley Mullens '10 – A top five competitor at the 2008 ASC meet where he took fourth, Mullens' name is well-woven into War Hawks success. Five of his 8K marks are still among the program's noted annals, and he placed in the regional top 35 three times.

Mullens also turned heads in the conference. He was a four-time awardee with three first-team selections included. His classroom abilities were also noted, as he was a three-time United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association academic selection.

Derek Riedel '02 – Riedel saw similar achievements on the conference and regional levels as his fellow All-Century Team members. He was a conference runner-up and took 31st at the South/Southeast Region meet in 2001.

The program's only Texas Division III individual champion (2002), he collected two first three efforts at the meet, taking third the year prior. Riedel closed out his Maroon and White running career with three all-ASC awards, two of which were first team.

Ken Wheeler '10 – One of two individual national meet qualifiers from 1998-2008, Wheeler clicked off a 153rd place outing at Hanover College of Indiana in 2008. He added three top 35 regional efforts, was a three-time best-four finisher at the ASC meet, and placed third at the Texas Division III Championships once.

He has seven marks among the program's all-time best in the 8K, and his 20:32 4K in Oregon during 2008 and 32:46 10K clocking at the Chile Pepper Festival in 2009 are still among the top marks in those two distances, too. Wheeler, also a four-time USTFCCCA academic honoree, was a four-time all-ASC selection receiving three first-team selections, which featured Freshman of the Year billing in 2006 and a Sportsmanship Athlete of the Year honor in 2009.

Mitch Wolowicz '00 – The school's first ASC individual champion when he won in 1996, Wolowicz joins Chandler and Enright among the four league first-place finishers in program history.

His memorable 1996 slate didn't end there. He ran among the top 30 at the NAIA South/Southeast Regional meet a few weeks later. Wolowicz's converted 26:08 time at the 1996 ASC Championships, initially a 24:40 for five meters, remains one of the program's fastest races, spotlighting two all-conference awards.

Legendary coach Bill Libby, the founder of the program, and Chandler, his successor, are coaches for the team.
