ABILENE, TEXAS – A member of McMurry University's Class of 2023 delivered in a pinch Friday, April 28.
Kinleigh Stotts stepped in the circle with the War Hawks seeking an American Southwest Conference split at crosstown rival Hardin-Simmons. The Covington, Texas native produced a hard-nosed seven-inning, six-strikeout outing against the potent Cowgirls offense. In contrast, head coach
David McNally's offense blistered a home run, triple, and double toward a 7-4 triumph, which set a new single-season wins mark (22).
Junior center fielder
Mercedes Camacho (El Paso, Texas) smashed a two-run homer in the second, as the Maroon and White never trailed in the nightcap at Lou Morton Ellis Field. Junior infielder
Grace Duecker (Fredericksburg, Texas) added a three-bagger during a one-for-two, one-RBI contest; freshman infielder
Miranda Soileau (Houston, Texas) rapped a double among three hits, three runs scored, and an RBI; and sophomore outfielder
Aliyah Tanguma (Kyle, Texas) tallied two hits and an RBI to aid in a seven-run, nine-hit attack.
Those numbers were more than enough for Stotts to earn her 25
th career collegiate victory. The War Hawks, moving to 22-11 overall and 14-9 in the ASC, led 7-1 through five and a half before the hosts closed within three late before a fly out to right with two on in the seventh concluded the contest.
Hardin-Simmons captured game one of the weekend set 10-2 in six innings. Freshman infielder
Bre Barajas (Abilene, Texas) sparked the Maroon and White with an RBI single in the first for a 1-0 lead, but the hosts tallied four in the first and didn't look back.
McMurry and HSU close out the series with a single game Saturday, April 29. First pitch is 12 p.m.
