LETOURNEAU THWARTS WAR HAWKS SATURDAY SPLIT ATTEMPT

ABILENE, TEXAS – Sophomore outfielder Xavier Escobar (Buda, Texas) closed out a high-flying six-for-eight, four runs scored, four-RBI series in which he doubled, tripled, and homered to lead McMurry University's offense Saturday, April 15.

Escobar and his War Hawks teammates posted 16 runs and 21 hits over 16 innings of American Southwest Conference action at Walt Driggers Field. Despite those prodigious numbers, it wasn't enough to sideline an equally potent LeTourneau University attack. The Yellowjackets jumped out to a 6-2 lead in game one of the doubleheader toward a 10-3 win and then answered a War Hawks' 11-run mid-game rally in the nightcap with eight scores over their final four at-bats for a 14-13 decision.

Sophomore outfielder Casey Turner (Kingwood, Texas) joined his classmate for a multiple-hit effort in the opener, going two-for-three with a run scored and RBI. The two-or-more safety finishes were profound for the Maroon and White in game two. Junior shortstop Blake Beach (Atascocita, Texas) was two-for-six with a run scored and RBI; sophomore designated hitter Dylan Abbott (San Angelo, Texas) tallied three hits with a run scored and RBI; Turner came back for a two-hit, two-runs scored outing after his impressive game one total; freshman first baseman Noah Hamel (Schertz, Texas) tallied two hits and two RBI and scored twice; and junior second baseman Reid Brock (Anchorage, Alaska) finished with two hits and two RBI coming off the bench.

McMurry (12-20, 7-14 ASC) continues four in a row at home Tuesday, April 18, welcoming Arlington Baptist for a single nine-inning non-conference contest. They take to the road Friday and Saturday, April 21 and 22, taking on Concordia University of Austin in league play.
