MARSHALL, TEXAS – A tough luck set of road clashes with perennial American Southwest Conference power East Texas Baptist University opened up a weekend series Friday, March 31.
The host Tigers used a two-run first inning and stingy two-hit pitching in game one to win 3-0. They followed that up with a six-run third and another two-hit shutout in the nightcap to conclude the sweep with an 8-0 victory.
Head coach
David McNally's War Hawks, dipping to 14-5 overall and 8-3 in the league, received another hard-nosed complete game effort from senior
Jenna Lewis (Hearne, Texas) in the opener. After being tagged for the two early tallies, she kept the hosts at bay with one run allowed over the final five frames. Lewis, earning her 10
th straight complete game, worked around four hits and four walks to keep the Maroon and White close throughout. Senior
Kaylee Berdoll (Elgin, Texas) added a strong outing out of the bullpen in game two, firing two strikeouts in an inning and a third.
McMurry closes out the set Saturday, April 1, with a 12 p.m. first pitch at Taylor Field.
