ABILENE, TEXAS – Freshman catcher
Michael Smosna continues to enjoy the surroundings at Walt Driggers Field.
McMurry University head coach
Josh Lee's first-year backstop crushed a pair of big flies in game two of a three-game American Southwest Conference set with the University of Mary-Hardin-Baylor Saturday, March 18. His two bombs, part of a three-for-four, three-runs-scored, three-RBI dish appearance helped lift the Maroon and White to a 16-9 win over the Crusaders. All four of his round trippers this spring have occurred at the War Hawks' home field.
Freshman infielder
Riley Hood (Abilene, Texas) added three hits and five runs batted in, and sophomore infielder
Dylan Lee (Hutto, Texas) produced three hits, three runs scored and two RBI. With those three at the forefront, it was more than enough to add another sparkling pitching performance by sophomore
Bryson Morrill (Trophy Club, Texas), He spun four and a third innings of four-hit, two-run ball en route to his second victory of the season.
Looking to capture the league series, McMurry ran into more hot hitting from their visitors in the doubleheader nightcap. The Crusaders scored seven in the first and didn't look back during a 13-3, seven-inning triumph.
Hood came back with a two-hit, two-RBI contest. Sophomore infielder
Nolan Scherencel (Arlington, Texas) also finished with two hits in the series concluder.
McMurry (7-11 overall, 4-5 ASC) wraps up a current string of seven in a row at home Tuesday, March 21. Trinity University comes to town for a 5 p.m. single nine-inning clash.
