ABILENE, TEXAS – Using a similar recipe that produced a pair of high-flying non-conference dual victories over Texas Lutheran University Saturday, Feb. 4, McMurry University's men's and women's squads had more reasons to smile Sunday, Feb. 5.
Head coach
Chris Breaux's women's team dropped only three games en route to a 9-0 win over Austin College. The War Hawks men's crew tried to equal that fantastic run. Still, the visiting Roos of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference claimed the number one doubles match during an 8-1 home team victory at Siedel-Swagerty Tennis Center.
Senior number one singles scholar-athlete
Reid Smith (Pampa, Texas) stopped AC's bid for a second team point on the men's side. He answered back a 6-1 second set loss to AC's Tate Nelson with a 6-1 third set triumph. The underclassman trio of freshmen
Ty Edwards (Brackettville, Texas) and Eh Ruh Soe (Dumas, Texas) and sophomore
Jonathan Arzuaga (Roanoke, Texas) put the match firmly on the side of the Maroon, Black, and White with straight-set singles victories in which they were all only touched for three-game defeats.
Junior
Bridgette Fly (Watauga, Texas), freshman
Jenna Vincent (San Angelo, Texas), and senior
Emily Nuttall (Keller, Texas) spotlighted the women's decision. They each turned in 6-0, 6-0 wins in singles action.
McMurry continues a set of three straight duals against the SCAC Friday, Feb. 10. Start time against Schreiner University is 3 p.m.
