Hannah DeFriend (Groesbeck, Texas) and senior
Emily Nuttall (Keller, Texas) turned in gritty singles performances to guide McMurry University Friday, Feb. 10.
The trio took straight-set wins at numbers four through six singles to enable head coach
Chris Breaux's squad to rally past Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Schreiner University 5-4 at Seidel-Swagerty Tennis Center. The War Hawks improved to 3-0 on the season, as two of three doubles victories also went their way.
In men's action, it was a bit of tough luck for Breaux's bunch as three of four third-set tiebreakers went the way of the Mountaineers en route to a 6-3 decision. Senior
Jason Cabe (Brownfield, Texas) was the lone War Hawks survivor in extra-session action, knocking off Austin Cervantes 10-6 for a win at number three.
McMurry wraps up four in a row at home to begin their spring slate on Saturday, Feb. 11. The first serve against Texas A&M-Texarkana is 9 a.m.
