Box Score 2 LUBBOCK, TEXAS – Elite-level competition in the form of NCAA Division II Lubbock Christian University greeted McMurry University Saturday, Feb. 18.

Chris Breaux's men were stopped by LCU 7-0, sending them to 2-3. Senior
Reid Smith (Pampa, Texas) nearly helped the Maroon, Black, and White stave off the shutout, putting his singles match at number one into a tiebreaker. Braden Tipton managed to rally past him 6-2 and 10-7 to offset a 7-6 first-set loss. The freshman doubles pairing of Eh Ruh Soe (Dumas, Texas) and Alfredo Avila (Hereford, Texas) was also close, falling 7-6 at number two.
In women's action, the War Hawks dipped to 3-2 with an 6-1 loss to LCU. Senior
Emily Nuttall (Keller, Texas) resumed her hot hand, gaining the lone point versus the hosts. She is now a combined 5-1 in singles and doubles action.
McMurry's men and women are back at the Seidel-Swagerty Tennis Center on campus Friday and Saturday, Feb. 24 and 25. They take on the University of St. Thomas of Texas and East Texas Baptist University at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Friday and LeTourneau University at 9 a.m. Saturday as the 2023 American Southwest Conference dual schedule begins.
