MARSHALL, TEXAS – The junior forward tandem of
Emily Holland (Mansfield, Texas) and
Jaelynn Portillo (Grand Prairie, Texas) made several charges at East Texas Baptist University's defense Thursday, Oct. 5. However, the tenacious Tigers defense kept McMurry University's usually stalwart offense off the scoreboard in a 2-0 American Southwest Conference decision.
Holland peppered ETBU's back line with three total attempts, one of which was on goal. Portillo had two opportunities and also aimed at the opposing frame. At the match's end, head coach
Charles Nobles' team got ten strikes off, with four being on target, but it was to no avail.
Senior goalkeeper
Cortlynn Boone (Argyle, Texas) kept pace against the home team's offense for a good share of the early October evening, compiling six saves in 90 minutes. However, the hosts got two into the back of the War Hawks' net in the second half to make the difference.
McMurry (7-2-2 overall, 0-1-1 ASC) faces off against LeTourneau University on Saturday, Oct. 7. Game time is 4 p.m.
