PLAINVIEW, TEXAS – A stout offensive attack, coupled with senior goalkeeper Cortlynn Boone's second 2023 shutout Saturday, Oct. 7, allowed McMurry University to conclude a weekend American Southwest Conference trip on even terms.
 
Head coach Charles Nobles' team, improving to 8-2-2 overall and 1-1-1 in the league, gave LeTourneau University's defense headaches throughout the 90 minutes at LETU Field. The War Hawks were especially effective over the first 45, out-shooting their hosts 11-4 with a relentless surge. The forward combination of freshman Kaylee Worth (Frisco, Texas) and junior Emily Holland (Mansfield, Texas) spotlighted that opening stage attack. Holland managed three points with an assist and a goal, and Worth drilled the eventual game-winner in the 14^th minute.
 
The Maroon and White added a score in the second half to complete the 3-0 victory. Holland, closing out another massive offensive output, posted an assist along with junior defender Haylie Blakley (Allen, Texas) as part of a nifty set in the 50^th minute that enabled sophomore midfielder Alexis Lira (North Richland Hills, Texas) to find the back of the Yellow Jackets' net. Holland's four-point day moved into the program's all-time single-season lead in points (33).
 
Boone and the War Hawks' back line stood firm in the face of five home-side attempts at their net. The five saves from the senior netminder marked the third successive outing in which she has collected four or more.
 
McMurry is back on its Wilford Moore pitch Thursday, Oct. 13, as nearby league foe Howard Payne University comes to Abilene for a 5 p.m. kickoff.
