ABILENE, TEX. – Keeping Southwestern Assemblies of God University's defense on its heels throughout 90 minutes, McMurry gave their home fans plenty to cheer about for their first 2022 opportunity on the Wilford Moore Stadium FieldTurf Tuesday, Sept. 20.
Head coach
Charles Nobles' War Hawks, leading 1-0 at the break on an eventual game-winning strike from senior forward
Kara Moore (Azle, Tex.) in the 27
th minute, busted things open midway through the second stanza. A lot of it was due in part of the play of junior defender
McKenna Standifer (Flower Mound, Tex.).
Standifer lifted a shot into the upper right section of the Lions' net in the 55
th minute and then deftly took a well-placed corner kick by sophomore defender
Haylie Blakley (Allen, Tex.) and headed into almost the exact same spot in the 77
th minute. Her first career multi-goal match pushed the War Hawks to 2-2-2 on the season with a 3-0 triumph.
Defensively, Noble's side recent run of stingy play resumed. It was their second shutout in the last three matches, a span in which they have allowed only one goal in 270 minutes.
McMurry concludes it pre-conference calendar with a non-league clash against fellow American Southwest Conference member UT-Dallas Thursday, Sept. 22. Kickoff is 7 p.m. at Comet Soccer Complex in Dallas.
