KERRVILLE, TEX. – The offensive tandem of forward
Emily Holland (Mansfield, Tex.) and defender
Haylie Blakley (Allen, Tex.) proved crucial for McMurry University breaking into the win column for the first time.
.
Holland deposited goals in the host Schreiner University net less than a minute in and in the early stages of the second half to fuel head coach
Charles Nobles' side to a 2-1 non-conference victory. Blakley was in the assist column for both.
Junior goalkeeper
Priscella Caruso (Tomball, Tex.) earned the win in net, forging two saves against three Mountaineer shot attempts. McMurry, moving to 1-2-2 on the season, out-shot their hosts 12-10 with Holland's three strikes leading the way. Junior midfielder
Haleigh Ray (Argyle, Tex.) didn't make things easy on the home net minder, either, as both of her shot attempts had to be knocked away.
McMurry raises the curtain on its 2022 home slate Tuesday, Sept. 20. Southwestern Assemblies of God University comes to Abilene for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff on the Wilber Moore FieldTurf.
