Men's tennis drops doubleheader against Oklahoma Wesleyan

ABILENE, Texas – McMurry Men's Tennis dropped a pair of matches against non-conference opponent Oklahoma Wesleyan Friday at the Seidel-Swagerty Tennis Center. The War Hawks fell by scores of 5-4 and 6-3, respectively.

McMurry moves to 2-5 on the season, while the Eagles (2-4) tallied their first two victories of the season.

"We battled and kept it close in the morning match against OKWU," said head coach Chris Breaux. "We decided to change some things up the second go-round and gave the freshman an opportunity to see the court. Despite the books, we are confident about the future."

In the opening matchup, McMurry would hold the advantage in doubles play with a 2-1 lead heading into singles. The War Hawks would reach the 4-2 mark with wins at Flight 5 and 6, but suffered tough losses in the remaining three matches.

Flight 2 doubles teammates Reid Smith and Dylan Bryant grinded out an 8-5 victory over Clement Martin and Logan Reece.

Ty Edwards and Jason Cabe grabbed Flight 3 with a dominating 8-1 victory over Adam Spencer and Brenner McDougal.

Cabe earned Flight 5 singles over Reece by identical 6-4 sets, while Jonathan Arzuaga-Portugues cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 finish against McDougal at Flight 6.

Arzuaga and Trent Lewis would team up to take Flight 3 doubles in game two against the Eagles, defeating Spencer and McDougal, 8-2.

Senior Chase Daniell powered his way to a win at the top singles flight, beating Jorge Catala Ortiz, 6-1, 7-5 (9-7).

In addition, Cabe would beat Spencer at Flight 5, 6-4, 6-0.

McMurry will have a quick turnaround as it will host UT Dallas tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m.
