MARSHALL, Texas – Following a loss at LeTourneau this past Saturday, McMurry University Men's Tennis bounced back Sunday to claim its first win of the season, defeating East Texas Baptist 5-4 in Marshall, Texas.
Despite only claiming Flight 1 singles against LETU (1-0) one day prior in Longview, McMurry (1-2) turned things around quickly the next day and claimed two doubles and three singles against ETBU (1-2).
"The men fought hard and battled against both opponents," said head coach
Chris Breaux. "We have some things we need to work on, but we saw quick improvement in the win against ETBU."
Senior
Chase Daniell tallied the lone point for McMurry at the top singles flight against the YellowJackets and posted a 2-0 mark against the Tigers to add to his weekend total. Alongside teammate
Connor Hogan, the pair rolled past ETBU's Christian Dubec and Brycen Fears, 8-3. Daniell later powered through his No. 1 singles match against ETBU's Slade Austin, 6-0, 6-2.
After a long, grueling tie-breaker at Flight 3 doubles,
Ty Edwards and
Jason Cabe emerged with the 8-7 (17-15) win over ETBU's Parker Stewart and Tim Cooley.
Junior
Reid Smith won Flight 2 singles against Randal Lemmon, 6-3, 6-1, while Cabe added the winning point for McMurry with an identical score over Abraham Silva at Flight 5.
