ARLINGTON, TEXAS - The road to a 6-0 start to McMurry University's 2022-23 season didn't occur without a little bit of late-game drama Nov. 29.
Head coach Drew Long's War Hawks appeared on the road to an impressive road win at Arlington Baptist University, scoring 28 of the first 37 points against the National Christian College Athletic Association powers. However, the Patriots dug their defensive heels in and managed to work themselves back into the contest.
ABU used a 38-27 second half roll to close as close as two points down the home stretch. The home team had possession in the final three seconds with a chance to win or tie. However, freshman forward/center
Aryana Cleveland stepped in front of a entry pass into the paint and the clock hit zeroes on a
63-61 final.
Sophomore guard
Emily Holland continued to show off her offensive prowess. She clicked in a sixth successive double-figure scoring contest, posting 13 points on four-of-eight field goal shooting and was a perfect four-for-four at the charity stripe. Freshman guard
Helana Chadwick kept a similar string in tow with 13 points which included hitting on two-of-four three-point attempts. She also led the Maroon, Black and White with three assists. Freshman guard
Kylie Flippin kept an impressive classwoman theme going on the early-week road trip, tallying 10 points and grabbing six rebounds. She and Chadwick also shared the team steals lead (three).
McMurry welcomes East Texas Baptist University to Kimbrell Arena for its 2022-23 American Southwest Conference opener Thursday, Dec. 1. Game time is 5:30 p.m.
