CHARLES, LEBLANC LEAD WAY IN CROSSTOWN BATTLE

ABILENE, TEXAS – McMurry University started a stretch of four successive road contests, giving NCAA Division I foe Abilene Christian University a strong challenge over the first half of the opening 20 minutes Tuesday, Nov. 15.

Sophomore guard Matt Pena (El Paso, Texas) buried a three-pointer to the favor of the Maroon, Black, and White supporters in ACU's Moody Arena for a quick 3-0 lead. ACU turned the margin in their favor but couldn't shake the tenacious play of head coach Zach Pickelman's team, leading only 21-18 with less than 10 minutes to go in the first half. From that point, the DI Western Athletic Conference Wildcats got things into motion to the tune of a 29-12 run to end the frame and didn't look back toward a 104-46 decision.

Junior guard/forward Rob Charles (Houston, Texas) continued his solid 2022-23 start, posting his second straight double-figure outing. His 11 points topped the War Hawk's scoring column. Fellow junior back courter C.J. LeBlanc (Dallas, Texas) reeled off his 11th straight double-figure contest, dating back to the end of 2021-22, tallying 10 points.

Pickelman's group takes on its third Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference foe in non-conference action Friday, Nov. 18. Tip-off against the 'Roos of Austin College is 7 p.m. at Hughey Gymnasium.
