ABILENE, TEXAS – Senior guard Remy Minor (Chicago, Ill.) topped four McMurry University players in double figures Friday, Nov. 11.
Head coach
Zach Pickelman's team nearly made the impressive feat stand up inside Kimbrell Arena. However, Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Schreiner University managed to rally down the stretch and hold on for an 89-87 win over the War Hawks.
Minor tallied 21 points on eight-of-16 shooting from the field and also grabbed four rebounds. Junior guard C.J. LeBlanc (Dallas, Texas) added 18 points, four rebounds, and four assists, and sophomore guard T.J. Hilliard (New Orleans, La.) and freshman Elijah Lomas came off the bench for 12 and 11 points, respectively.
A 28-16 run over the final 8:44 turned out to be the difference for the Mountaineers, overturning a 71-61 deficit. Pickelman's team still had a frontcourt possession to tie or win the game with one second remaining, but an in-bounds pass was knocked away with the clock running out.
McMurry seeks to rebound from the tough-luck decision Saturday, Nov. 12, when Texas Lutheran University comes to Abilene for a 3 p.m. start.
