WIN STREAK MOVES TO THREE

ALPINE, TEXAS – McMurry University's recent meteoric rise up the American Southwest Conference standings continued Thursday, Oct. 13.

Head coach Marquis Muse's War Hawks stopped Sul Ross State University 1-0 on its home Lobo Field. Freshman goalkeeper Griffin Cardwell (Plano, Texas), the reigning ASC Defensive Player of the Week who's helped spearhead a defensive effort of surrendering only one goal in the last 270 minutes, added to his recent accolades with a personal single-match high nine saves, extending a span of matches in which he's has three-or-more to five straight.

McMurry's road to a fourth win in their last five outings and third straight triumph went through the finesse feet of freshman forward Armando Saldana (Wichita Falls, Texas). Saldana, recording a score for a third consecutive match, posted his team-leading fourth goal in the 23rd minute, which was good for his first collegiate match decider. Senior forward Andres Martinez (Horizon City, Texas) topped the shots chart with four.

The War Hawks, improving to 5-5-2 overall and 3-1 in the league, moved into a tie for third on the league standings. They continue their road trip with a visit to Howard Payne University's Citizens National Bank Soccer Park in Brownwood, Texas, Saturday, Oct. 15. Match time is 3 p.m.
