War Hawks fall short against Southwestern, 1-0

GEORGETOWN, Texas – The War Hawks are still in the hunt for a road victory after suffering a tough 1-0 loss against Southwestern Thursday night in Georgetown.

Despite McMurry's (1-2) aggressive efforts on and off the ball, the Pirates (4-0) were able to seal the win with a solo goal in the 57th minute by Samantha Hazen.

McMurry owned the shot advantage in the first half, registering 10 total shots while holding the Pirates offense to just three shots with two being on goal.

McMurry carried an .800 shots on goal percentage into the second half, but would ultimately come up short as the Pirates would maintain their 1-0 lead until the end.

The War Hawks finished the game with 14 total shots with 11 on goal, while the Pirates recorded eight and six, respectively.

Seniors Kate Holland and Ashland Hansen led the War Hawk offense with three shots and two on target apiece.

Kara Moore, Meriah Sikora and Emily Holland recorded a shot on goal in the matchup, as well.

McMurry will continue its road travels as they will head to Kerrville, Texas to face Schreiner tomorrow afternoon. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m.
