KERRVILLE, Texas – McMurry University Women's Soccer hit an early season stride with a dominant 4-0 victory over Schreiner Friday afternoon in Kerrville, Texas.
The War Hawks registered one goal on five shots in the first half, while holding the Mountaineers to one.
From there, McMurry kept the pressure on and cruised to a victory, keeping the Mountaineers shot-less in the second half. The War Hawks finished with 15 shots in the contest with six on goal.
The first score on the day came in the 11th minute from senior
Hallie Rutherford. She then recorded a brace with her second goal in the 54th minute. Rutherford now leads the McMurry roster with three goals on the season.
In the 64th minute, sophomore
McKenna Standifer scored her first collegiate goal as a War Hawk.
With a 3-0 lead, freshman
Emily Holland would secure the win with the final goal in the 67th minute.
Rutherford led the War Hawks offense with four shots with three being on goal, while nine others had at least one shot in the matchup.
The War Hawks return home Sunday, Sept. 12 to host Texas A&M - San Antonio for senior day at Wilford Moore Stadium. Game time is set for noon. Nine seniors will be honored at the conclusion of the game.
