Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s soccer drops opener at No. 21 Trinity, 3-0

SAN ANTONIO – McMurry University opened its women's soccer season with a tough challenge, as the War Hawks came up short by a 2-0 final against No. 21 Trinity University in San Antonio on Friday evening.

Trinity (1-0) – who finished last season as the nation's top-ranked team – took the early lead with a goal in the 13th minute, then extended it to 2-0 with a breakaway chance in the 42nd minute.

The War Hawks (0-1) strengthened their defense in the second half, anchored by a solid effort from sophomore goalkeeper Priscella Caruso with six saves in 45 minutes. Trinity scored one breakaway goal with just over five minutes remaining to erase her second half shutout.

Senior Meriah Sikora and sophomore Makayla Pearson each recorded a shot. Additionally, 24 players earned valuable minutes against the nationally-ranked Tigers.

The War Hawks will hold its home opener in less than two days, welcoming St. Thomas (TX) to Abilene on Sunday. Kickoff from Wilford Moore Stadium is set for noon.
