JACKSON, Miss. – Despite a strong second half defensively, the War Hawks (2-6, 0-1 ASC) were held scoreless in their conference opener against Belhaven (3-3-1, 1-1-0 ASC), falling 1-0 in Jackson, Mississippi Saturday afternoon.
The Blazers scored early for the game's lone goal, as Dalton Morgan would put one in the net in the fifth minute.
McMurry would slow the Blazer offensive attack in the second half, but wasn't able to connect on five second half shot attempts.
McMurry recorded 11 shots on the day with three being on target, while Belhaven registered 17 and 10, respectively.
Sophomore forward
Santiago Nunez led the McMurry offense with seven shots in the contest.
Herbie Martinez tallied two shots on the day, while
Luis Lopez and
Kevin Serrano both added a shot.
Goalkeeper
Orion Patterson notched nine saves on 17 shots faced, marking a new career high for the freshman.
The War Hawks will have a few days to rest, as they return to action on Thursday, Sept. 30 against East Texas Baptist. Hosting the Tigers, kickoff will be at 7:30 p.m. inside Wilford Moore Stadium.
