BETHANY, Okla. – McMurry University Women's Soccer continued its win streak with a 3-1 victory on the road against Southern Nazarene Tuesday night in Bethany, Oklahoma.
McMurry has now won three straight and moves to 4-2 on the season with two more non-conference matchups remaining before conference play begins.
The War Hawks led the Storm in first half shots taken, owning an 11-6 advantage with four on target. The Storm posted six on goal with two on target.
Emily Holland found the back of the net in the 30th minute off an assist from
Jaelynn Portillo, giving the War Hawks a 1-0 lead going into halftime.
McMurry would add another notch to the scorebook, registering a second goal in the 69th minute off the foot of
Bri Caudle, a goal that would eventually prove to be the game winner.
SNU answered back in the 79th minute with a goal by Alejandre Andrade.
With a one-point lead, McMurry would tack on a late score in the 84th minute by senior
Kate Holland to secure the win for the War Hawks.
The contest marks the first game this season both Holland sisters have netted a goal.
McMurry finished with 22 shot attempts, while SNU would post 15. Both teams posted eight shots on target. McMurry also took eight corner kicks while allowing SNU only three.
McMurry's offense was led by
Emily Holland,
Kara Moore and Portillo who all recorded four shots in the contest.
Sophomore
Cortlynn Boone held her own at goalie, recording seven saves in 90 minutes of play.
The War Hawks head back home for a non-conference matchup on Sunday, Sept. 19 against Texas Lutheran. Kickoff from Wilford Moore Stadium is set for 12 p.m.
