ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University Men's and Women's Tennis had several notable performances this past weekend, opening the season with tournament play in the HSU Classic Hidden Dual. The two-day tournament wrapped up on Saturday after competition was held on various courts around Abilene, including the Seidel-Swagerty Tennis Center.

Hosted by Hardin-Simmons, McMurry was one of six schools to compete, including Concordia Texas, East Texas Baptist, LeTourneau and Mary Hardin-Baylor. All participating schools are members of the American Southwest Conference.

The format allowed both McMurry programs to play four different schools in doubles play and two schools in singles competition.

On the men's side, Flight 1 doubles tandem Chase Daniell and Reid Smith posted a 2-1 mark on the weekend, defeating UMHB and ETBU, while dropping a close matchup against LETU.

At Flight 3 doubles, Connor Hogan and Jason Cabe prevailed in a tight matchup against ETBU.

Nicholas Settles and Ty Edwards cruised to a win at Flight 4 doubles against ETBU as well.

In singles play, the men were edged by LETU with a 4-6 singles mark but would bounce back against ETBU to claim six of eight matchups against the Tigers.

The women dominated in doubles play against UMHB and CTX, claiming all matchups against both squads. The War Hawks dropped only one match against LETU and split with ETBU.

Carrying that momentum into singles play, the War Hawks posted a 6-1 mark against LETU and had an even split with ETBU.

Notable match play came from freshman Kaylin Parker and sophomore Bridgette Fly who went undefeated in Flight 3 doubles as well as in singles play for the duration of the tournament.

The War Hawks have more fall action ahead of them as they face Texas Lutheran on Saturday, Sept. 18 in Abilene, Texas. Match play will be held at the Siedel-Swagerty Tennis Center. First serve set for 9 a.m.
