ABILENE, Texas -- The McMurry University Women's Tennis team powered its way to a semifinal appearance after taking down LeTourneau by a clean 5-0 sweep in the quarterfinals of the American Southwest Conference Women's Tennis Championship Thursday.
The War Hawks claimed all three doubles and tacked on two singles to close out the match against the YellowJackets.Â
"The girls fought well today," said head coach
Chris Breaux. "Now, it's time to rest and recover for a very competitive matchup tomorrow."
Gabrielle Ellwanger and
Morgan Parnell picked up the first point of the day with an 8-0 win at the No. 3 doubles position.
Shortly after,
Claire Hillyer and
Hope Turner defeated Summer Apostalo and Bailey Deatherage with another 8-0 sweep.
To seal the complete doubles sweep,
Hannah DeFriend and
Jasmin Klassen allowed just three points in an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles.
Heading into singles play, the War Hawks only needed two more points to advance.Â
Putting the foot on the gas, Parnell and DeFriend would clinch the match with 6-0 sweeps in their respective singles to earn the win for McMurry.
The War Hawks will now look ahead to the semifinals where they will face UT Dallas tomorrow, May 7 at 10:30 a.m. Friday's match play is being held at Abilene Christian -- Hosted by Hardin-Simmons.Â
