ABILENE, Texas – The McMurry University Softball team extends its win streak after claiming a doubleheader sweep against Concordia Texas Friday night in American Southwest Conference play.
McMurry (16-6, 12-5 ASC) has now won six games in a row and look to continue adding to the win column with a victory in tomorrows series finale against at noon. CTX moves to (16-11, 10-7 ASC) on the year and seek to avoid the sweep.
Earning both wins on the day was reigning ASC West Pitcher of the Week
Kinleigh Stotts. Stotts earned her sixth win of the season after senior
Bekah Chance pitched a stout seven innings to hold the Tornados to zero runs in regulation. Stotts entered in the eighth inning to closeout the game, taking down three batters on just 10 pitches. She improved to a 7-1 record in the nightcap with a complete game victory.
Game 1: McMurry 1, Concordia Texas 0 (8 Innings)
The War Hawks remained deadlocked at 0-0 with the Tornadoes through regulation. Concordia scattered five hits throughout the bout while McMurry earned the win on just two hits.
Concordia nearly jumped on the board with a close call at home plate as Cristina Ayala would single to right field to cause pressure on the War Hawk defense. With Garcia heading for home plate, a diving effort would be met by the arm of sophomore
Brianna Martinez. From right field, Martinez would sail one home just in time to snatch away the potential run for Concordia.
After holding the Tornados to a scoreless half at the top of the eighth, senior
Kelsey Ahart would jump start the War Hawk offense with a single to center field in the bottom of the eighth. Pinch running for Ahart,
Jesse Stephenson would steal second on a passed ball. Shortly after
Elizabeth Battle would reach on a fielding error, advancing Stephenson to third. With runners in scoring position, Martinez would come up big with a sac bunt to score Stephenson for the shutout win.
Ahart and
Emily Michki registed hits in the matchup while Martinez was credited with the solo RBI on the day.
Chance pitched a hefty seven innings, facing 28 batters while only allowing five hits on 88 pitches. She also registered three strikeouts in the early window as well.

Game 2: McMurry 5, Concordia Texas 3
Concordia took an early 1-0 lead with a score at the top of the first. McMurry would quickly hit back with a four-run inning to take control of the game.
Ashley McClellan would lead off the game with a single to left field followed by a single to left center from
Savannah Flinn.
Mercedes Camacho would reach on a fielding error which would result in the scoring of McClellan.
Kasey Woolard would follow up with a single up the middle to bring in Camacho and Flinn, giving McMurry a 3-0 lead. A sacrifice fly by
Camille Scott would later score
Sandra Parks for the RBI before the Tornados would end the inning without any further damage.
In the bottom of the third, the War Hawks would strike again as
Cayleigh England would tally a sac fly to center field to score Martinez, pushing the War Hawk lead to 5-1.
It wasn't until the top of the fifth inning, when Concordia would find a way to cut into the McMurry lead, scoring Ayala off of a single up the middle by Erica Riley.
The Tornados would send another across the plate late in the top of the sixth but was held at the three-point mark by the War Hawks for the duration of the game.
McMurry recorded seven hits in the second outing while Concordia contributed 10 in the matchup.
Flinn led the team on offense as she went 2-4 at the plate and recorded the only double on the day.
Stotts earned the win after pitching a complete 7.0 innings and registering two strikeouts on 32 batters faced.
