ABILENE, Texas – McMurry Men's tennis closed out the regular season with a 9-0 sweep over Howard Payne Saturday afternoon at the Seidel-Swagerty Tennis Center.
The War Hawks finished the season 6-9 overall and 3-2 in the American Southwest Conference, while the Yellow Jackets fall to 1-17, 1-4 on the year.
Finishing first on the day was
Chris Causer and
Dylan Bryant at No. 3 doubles. The pair earned the win, 8-3, against HPU's Ashton Stevens and Alexander Shelton.
Reid Smith and
Trey Fambrough followed up with a win at No. 2 singles, 8-4.
Carlos Martinez and
Chase Daniell continued their dominance at No. 1 doubles, earning the win by a score of 8-2 against HPU's Hunter Green and Micah Hunter.
In singles play, Martinez and
Chris Causer earned their victories by clean set sweeps, 6-0, 6-0.
Daniell claimed No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-4, while Smith would complete No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-0.
Fambrough would allow the only Yellow Jacket set on the day after earning set one in No. 6 singles, 6-2. Dropping the second set, 5-7, Fambrough would make up ground in the tie-breaker, defeating Landon Ferree, 10-3, to earn the point for the War Hawks.
McMurry looks ahead to the American Southwest Conference Championships which are scheduled to begin Thursday, April 29 in Richardson, Texas. Time and opponent will be announced Saturday night by the league office.
