ABILENE, Texas –McMurry University Women's Tennis closed out the regular season with a clean 9-0 sweep against Howard Payne Friday morning at the Seidel-Swagerty Tennis Center.
McMurry finished its 2021 campaign with a 6-7 overall record and a 3-1 mark in American Southwest Conference play. The War Hawks also conclude the season, ranked No. 7 in the West Region, according the most recent NCAA DIII National Rankings.
"I'm so impressed with how much our girls improved this season," said head coach
Chris Breaux. "We worked hard and stepped up to a challenging season. I'm very proud of what we accomplished this year."
The War Hawks held the Yellow Jackets to a combined total of four points through three doubles matches and five points through all six singles.
Hope Turner,
Morgan Parnell and
Mandy Roberson all claimed straight set sweeps in their respective singles, 6-0, 6-0.
Claire Hillyer earned No. 1 singles against Lexie Nave after dropping only two points in the first set, 6-2, 6-0.
Jasmin Klassen claimed No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-1, against Zoe Sprayberry while
Hannah DeFriend would closeout No. 3 singles with a comfortable 6-1, 6-0 win against Katelynn Lovel.
The War Hawks completed the regular season second in the ASC West Division, just behind Hardin Simmons (6-6, 4-0 ASC), and have sealed a spot in the 2021 ASC Conference Championship tournament which is set for May 6-8. Time and Location TBA.
