AUSTIN, Texas – The McMurry Women's Tennis team capped off the weekend with a strong performance against Concordia Texas, claiming the American Southwest Conference matchup by a score of 7-2 on Sunday afternoon in Austin.
The War Hawks (5-7, 2-1) registered a clean sweep in doubles play and claimed four singles to take down the Tornados (6-4, 3-1).
Doubles play would not be easy as the War Hawks would battle it out in all three matchups to earn the 3-0 lead heading into singles action.
Doubles duo
Claire Hillyer and
Hope Turner pushed the limits at No. 1 doubles, earning the round by a tie-breaker decision, 8-7 (7-4).
Hannah DeFriend and
Jasmin Klassen would follow up with an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles.
Snagging No. 3 doubles for the sweep,
Morgan Parnell and
Gabrielle Ellwanger earned the bout, 8-6.
Continuing to tack on points for McMurry, Hillyer would have a comfortable win at No.1 singles, 6-2, 6-1, against Isabella Wiik.
Klassen claimed No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-2, against Natalia Goodman.
Turner earned No. 5 singles after a close first set against Alejandra Rueda, 6-4, before sealing the win with a 6-2 second set.
Finishing out the afternoon, Parnell would bring home a win at No. 6 singles against CTX's Emily Hines, 6-4, 6-3.
The War Hawks will wrap up the regular season by welcoming Howard Payne to the Seidel-Swagerty Tennis Center on Saturday, April 24 at 2 p.m.
