AUSTIN, Texas – McMurry University Men's Tennis grabbed a pair of wins at the No. 1 spot on Sunday afternoon, but came up on the wrong end of a 7-2 loss to American Southwest Conference opponent Concordia Texas in Austin.
The War Hawks move to 5-9 overall and 2-2 in ASC West play, while Concordia Texas improves to (8-5, 3-2). The Tornados and War Hawks are third and fourth in the division, respectively.
Senior Carlos Martinez highlighted the day with an entertaining bout, winning the No. 1 singles match against Joshua Bode with a 7-6, 6-3 win.
Martinez also teamed up with Chase Daniell in No. 1 doubles to take down Joeri Bregman and Robin Van der Heijden by a score of 8-4.
Daniell had a tough matchup in No. 2 singles against Van der Heijden, falling 7-5, 6-4 in a competitive bout.
Despite not getting the win, junior Connor Hogan earned the first set point in No. 3 singles against Adrian Munguia. Munguia went on to earn a 3-6, 6-2, 6-0 victory.
The War Hawks will wrap up the regular season with one more conference doubleheader, as the men and women welcome Howard Payne to town on Saturday, April 24 at 2 p.m.
