RICHARDSON, Texas – It was a tough day for the McMurry University Men's and Women's Tennis teams, as they took losses against UT Dallas Saturday afternoon in Richardson, Texas.
The men fell to the Comets, 7-2, while the women suffered a 9-0 sweep in straight sets.
Despite the loss, senior
Carlos Martinez and junior
Chase Daniell continued their win streak, earning No. 1 doubles with a score of 8-6 over Ashwin Vaithianathan and John Edwards.
Martinez went on to earn a win in No. 1 singles by default after claiming the first set, 6-3, and leading the second set, 4-1. Comets' Vaithianathan would then pull out due to cramping, giving McMurry its second point of the match.
Junior
Connor Hogan nearly climbed back in a tough two-setter in No. 4 singles, but fell just short in the second set to Jed De Luna. Luna would walk away with the 6-3, 7-5 win.
Competition proved to be a tough matchup for the women as they were unable to tally a McMurry point on the day.
Notable match play came from doubles teammates
Gabrielle Ellwanger and
Morgan Parnell. The duo gave the Comets a run in No. 3 doubles before falling to Suzuka Nishino and Svaksha Iyengar, 8-4.
Both McMurry squads will have time to recoup as they will not be in action until Saturday, March 20 against Saint Mary's University (TX). First serve set for 8:30 a.m.
