Jaime scores game-winner in final seconds to defeat Sul Ross, 2-1

ALPINE, Texas – Senior DJ Jaime made the most of his final game in a McMurry uniform on Saturday, scoring the go-ahead penalty kick with five seconds to go to lead the War Hawks to a 2-1 win over Sul Ross State in Alpine.

The War Hawks (1-7, 1-5 American Southwest Conference) scored early in the fourth minute as freshman Martin Rodriguez netted his first career goal on an assist from Andres Martinez. The 1-0 lead held through halftime.

The Lobos (2-4-1, 2-4-1) equalized the game in the 56th minute on a goal by Mauricio Perez, keeping the game deadlocked until the final few seconds.

Sul Ross attempted the go-ahead shot in the final minute, but freshman keeper Angel Salazar secured the save to keep it tied up. The War Hawks drove down the field and drew a foul in the box with five seconds to go.

Jaime was summoned to take the penalty kick, pushing it through for the game-winner.

Shots were fairly even, as Sul Ross attempted eight with five on net. The War Hawks were not far behind with six total and four on target. McMurry did own a 7-4 corner advantage in the contest.

Freshman Christopher Mora-Brandt got the start in the first half, while Salazar closed out the final 45. Both goalies recorded two saves.

Rodriguez led the team with three shots and two on net.
