ABILENE, Texas – A single goal in the 64th minute by Kaylee Maddox was the deciding factor in a highly-anticipated women's soccer match between McMurry University and Hardin-Simmons University, as the Cowgirls won 1-0 at the HSU Soccer Complex.
HSU was the aggressors with a 12-2 shot advantage, but McMurry stepped up defensively and limited the offense to the lone goal. Senior keeper Cindy Villasana recorded five saves in the effort.
Newcomers Kara Moore and Makayla Pearson each tallied a shot for McMurry.
The War Hawks will have another challenging opponent ahead on Monday, March 1 as they welcome NCAA D1 Louisiana Tech for an exhibition at 12 p.m. at Wilford Moore Stadium.
