ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University Football took its first loss of the season on Saturday, falling 49-7 against Hardin-Simmons University in a battle for the Wilford Moore Trophy at Wilford Moore Stadium.
The War Hawks move to a 1-1 record, while HSU starts the season 1-0.
The defenses shined early, but the Cowboys would strike first on a 39-yard touchdown pass midway through the first quarter. The lead expanded to 21-0 by halftime.
HSU scored a trio of third quarter touchdowns to double the lead, but McMurry finally found the end zone in the fourth with a pass from sophomore Carlos Garibay to freshman Kristopher Martin. HSU also scored in the final frame on Marc Reed's third rushing touchdown of the day.
This week, the War Hawks have a bye week and will return to action on March 13 at Texas Lutheran.
