Box Score ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University Women's Tennis blanked visiting LeTourneau University 9-0 Friday at the Seidel-Swagerty Tennis Center.
The War Hawks gave up only eight points total in all three doubles matches and dominated in singles play, claiming all six singles contests.
"The girls came out and handled business," said head coach
Chris Breaux. "We played with confidence and drive to earn our second win of the season."
Freshmen
Jasmin Klassen and
Hannah DeFriend tallied the first point for McMurry with an 8-4 win against LeTourneau's Savannah Orton and Brandy Weems.
In No. 3 doubles, senior duo
Gabrielle Ellwanger and
Morgan Parnell cruised through an 8-1 matchup against Mimi Samdi and Amber Van Duyn.
Claire Hillyer and
Hope Turner closed out doubles play with an 8-3 win to put McMurry ahead 3-0.
In singles play, DeFriend posted a clean (6-0, 6-0) sweep against Orton while
Claire Hillyer,
Bridgette Fly and Ellwanger only allowed one point each in their wins.
After a close first set, Klassen flew through the second set to finish off LETU's Julia Miller, 6-4, 6-0.
McMurry is now 2-2 on the season.
The War Hawks will have a quick turn-around as they will host East Texas Baptist on Saturday at the Seidel-Swagerty Tennis Center. Match play is set to begin at 11 A.M.
