ABILENE, Texas – McMurry Women's Soccer's historic season came to a close on Friday evening at the HSU Soccer Complex, as the War Hawks lost to American Southwest Conference regular season champion Hardin-Simmons in the ASC semifinal round, 4-0.
The War Hawks end with an 11-5-3 overall record – one win shy of the single-season program record – while going 6-2-2 in conference play. McMurry also makes an appearance in the ASC semifinal for just the second time in program history.
The season also included McMurry's first win on penalty kicks, 4-1, advancing past Howard Payne in the quarterfinal round to decide a scoreless draw.
Last week, McMurry beat HSU for the first time in 22 all-time meetings. It was also HSU's first loss in conference play since 2015.
In today's match, HSU (14-3, 9-1 ASC) avenged last week's 1-0 loss to advance its 21st consecutive championship final. The Cowgirls will take on the winner of No. 2 Mary-Hardin Baylor and No. 3 Concordia Texas on Sunday.
HSU scored a goal within three minutes and added two more right before halftime to increase its lead. McMurry fired off 10 shots in the second half in an attempt to save its season, but were unable to break through.
HSU had a 16-13 shot advantage with eight shots on frame, while McMurry had seven. The War Hawks also attempted seven corner kicks. Brooke Boyer led the way with three shots on goal.
