Men’s Soccer drops regular season finale to Cowboys, 2-0

ABILENE, Texas – The McMurry University men's soccer team wrapped up its first regular season under Coach Marquis Muse on Friday with a tight match against cross-town Hardin-Simmons, but fell short 2-0 at Wilford Moore Stadium.

Despite the loss, McMurry had a 7-6 shot advantage and did not allow a single shot in the second half. Unfortunately, the Cowboys found the early advantage with goals in the fifth and 17th minutes.

Mustering only one shot in the first 45 minutes, McMurry peppered the net in the second half with six shots and four on target. One of the two shots that missed the mark came from Santiago Nunez on a bender from outside the 18, but it hit off the right woodwork.

Nunez and Danny Chavez each had two shots, with Chavez putting both of his on frame. Goalkeeper Orion Patterson had two saves.

The War Hawks finish the season 4-13 overall and 2-8 in conference play – missing the postseason tournament by one spot. Eight of McMurry's losses were by two goals or less. Four of those losses were by just one goal.
