ORLANDO – McMurry University Women's Tennis dropped its first match of its spring break trip to Orlando, falling 9-0 to No. 5 Carnegie Mellon University at the USTA National Campus Sunday.
Singles matches were played as pro sets.
At number one singles, junior Claire Hillyer faced off against No. 7 Danna Taylor, dropping the match 8-2. CMU had three other players ranked in the top 50 nationally, as well.
HIllyer and freshman Hope Turner took on the fifth-ranked doubles team of Taylor and Courtney Ollis, but came up short, 6-1.
Turner played Ollis at number six singles, falling 8-3.
The War Hawks continue play in Orlando with two matches Monday. The War Hawks will face Curry College at 10:30 a.m. and Aquinas College at 6:30 p.m. All times are central.
