Men's Tennis swept by NCAA II foes

ABILENE, Texas – McMurry Univdrsity Men's Tennis was swept in a pair of matches Saturday against NCAA II competition at the Seidel-Swagerty Tennis Center. The War Hawks fell by identical 7-0 scores to Midwestern State and Dallas Baptist.

In the opener against the Mustangs, freshman Reid Smith and junior Joseph Diaz trailed just 4-3 at number three doubles, but MSU would go on to take the final two points to earn the doubles point.

Sophomore Chase Daniell kept it close in the first set of his singles match at number two, dropping the set 6-4. However, he dropped the second set 6-1 as the Mustangs went on to sweep singles play.

Against Dallas Baptist, Daniell and senior Carlos Martinez won their doubles match at number one, 6-3. Elsewhere in doubles, senior Zach Miller and freshman Brynson Harmon fell by a similar score at number two, while Diaz and Smith lost 6-4 at number three.

Moving to singles play, Martinez lost a heartbreaker at number one. Martinez won the first set, 7-6, before the Patriots evened the match with a 6-3 win in set two. In the decisive set, Martinez came up on the wrong end of a 7-6 decision.

McMurry will look for its first win of the season next weekend on the road, when the War Hawks visit Texas Lutheran, Trinity and Schreiner. First serve for the match at TLU is at 2 p.m.
