ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University Men's Tennis dropped a 6-3 decision Saturday afternoon at the Seidel-Swagerty Tennis Center, falling to nonconference foe University of St. Thomas (Houston).
Junior Joseph Diaz and freshman Reid Smith picked up the only doubles win on the afternoon for the War Hawks (2-6), taking the match at number three, 8-5.
Senior Carlos Martinez and sophomore Chase Daniell had a back-and-forth matchup at number one doubles before ultimately falling, 8-6.
Martinez then won 6-3, 7-6 (5) at number one singles to pull McM back within 3-2. Daniell nearly evened the match in his battle at number two. Daniell split the first two sets, 6-3 and 4-6, but dropped set three, 6-4.
UST won the next two matches at numbers four and five, with junior Trey Fambrough earning McM's final point with a 6-4, 6-1 win at number six.
Diaz also had a three-set match at number five, winning set one, 6-3, before falling in sets two and three by scores of 7-5 and 10-6.
The War Hawks will look to get back on track Sunday when they host University of the Ozarks at 9 a.m.
